The Freedom Forum Poll- 65% Of Americans Distrust The Press

65% of Americans disagree that "overall, the news media tries to report the news without bias."

Trustworthiness of the media fell another 6% since last year's poll.

65% of Americans agreed that "falsifying or making up stories in the media is a widespread problem."

So many Americans think the press makes stuff up and is biased. Big surprise there.

Yet this is significant in light of the fact that the press plays, at least in theory, the essential role of "government watchdog". The Freedom Forum's poll results should make the press uneasy. One wonders if they are listening to the American people or even care that the vital role of "government watchdog" is now being filled by ordinary citizens such as bloggers.
